EC Pro-Tips

    • Communicate with your Advisor REGULARLY!!!!  We are here to help and guide you, but we sometimes don't know you need something unless you reach out!

    • Spend some time BEFORE the start of each term to Plan and Organize! (see BEGINNING OF THE TERM CHECKLIST below to get started!)

    • Use/Check ALL Email Accounts!  As an Early College Student, you will be responsible for using both your Community College email address, as well as your Summit email (in addition to your Personal account!).  Make sure that you check them REGULARLY (we recommend daily) and make sure to use the right email when contacting instructors (Community College email = Community College Staff/Course; Summit email = Summit Staff/Course

    • When in doubt, reach out!  Get clarification, ask your questions, never assume!

    • When registering your classes, make sure the meeting times work for your schedule!  Hybrid (online & in-person) and Remote (online & Zoom) have SCHEDULED weekly or bi-weekly meetings!  When selecting your courses, make sure that if there is a time listed that you are able to make all meetings throughout the entire term!

    • BLENDED STUDENTS: Complete your Summit Virtual Course(s) early!  There is sometimes time between when the Summit Term starts and the Community College Term starts where you only have you Summit course(s)!  We HIGHLY recommend that you spend that time to really focus on your Summit courses and complete as much work as possible - it might even be possible for you to complete the course before your college courses begin!  There is NO PENALTY for finishing these courses early, and this will give you one less thing to do throughout the rest of the term.

  • Before the start of each term, it is recommended that Early College Students prep as best they can for the coming term.  Here is a checklist to get you started.

    Check College Schedule

    • Waitlist Status?  Make sure to check your College Email DAILY!  If you clear the waitlist for a course, you have a limited amount of time to take action, otherwise you will lose your spot.

    • Canceled Courses?  These happen!  Check your schedule and replace courses, as needed.  Check with your Advisor BEFORE changing courses.

    • Any changes to your schedule?  Make sure to send your Early College Advisor an updated screenshot of your schedule!

    Get Supplies!

    • YOUR Planner:  Google Calendar/Tasks, Old-School Paper/Pen...

    • Textbooks & Required Materials

    • Miscellaneous Supplies: Chromebook/Computer, Pens, Pencils, Highlighters, Sticky Notes.…

    Prep YOUR Planner

    • Add Summit & College Academic Calendar Dates to your Planner (School Closed Dates, Start Dates, Drop Dates, End Dates...) – check out our Campus Calendar doc to get you started.

    • Print YOUR Syllabi: Once you are able to access these in your College Student Portal, print each course's syllabus (paper or pdf)

      • Add Dates to your Planner: LIVE/Zoom Sessions, Assignment Due Dates, Test/Quiz Dates... (NOTE: R = Thursday!)

      • Add Instructor Contact Info to Your Address Book/Contacts

    • Add Bookmarks (Summit Learning Charter Student Services, College website(s), GmailGoogle CalendarGoogle DriveZoomClever)

    • Check ALL Emails for Updates!  It is your responsibility to check both your Summit and College emails regularly (we recommend DAILY) to stay on top of expectations, happenings, and other communications.

      • Struggling with checking all email addresses?  Consider forwarding them to one!

      • Students are expected to respond to ALL Advisor communications in a timely manner (emails, texts, calls, etc.) within 1-2 business days, unless otherwise specified.

    Download Parent/Student Square!

Parent/Student Square is the #1 way Summit communicates with our students!  Check out this doc for links to the app.

  • Blended Students are students who take courses both through Summit Virtual Academy and a Community College.  These students have different expectations and requirements than full-time Early College Students.

    Attendane Requirements

Blended students are required to make DAILY academic contacts.  These contacts can be made by:

    • Making progress in Summit Virtual Course (in Edgenuity or Canvas)

    • Attending LIVE course or event, including:

    • Academic Communication with Summit Staff (email, text, call, or Zoom)

    • Need help seeting up your Chrome Profile?  Check out this helpful doc!

  • Tuition & Fees Paid By Summit

Each term, Summit confirms your Early College Sponsorship AFTER we receive and approve your college schedule for that term (and after the term starts).

Summit Sponsorship pays for tuition and most fees*, and is limited to a certain dollar amount per term (contact your Advisor for the amount).  Any balance above and beyond that amount is the responsibility of the student/family to pay by the college's payment due date - please contact your Advisor for payment instructions.

Summit pays our tuition/fees directly to the college.  Student accounts WILL show a balance due until our payment is posted at the college.  Students MAY receive an automated notification from the college requesting payment – these can be ignored UNLESS your student balance is above your term Tuition Cap.

AGAIN...If your balance exceeds the Tuition Cap, it is YOUR responsibility to pay the extra amount directly to the college.

Contact your Advisor for any questions or concerns.

*Some fees are NOT included in Summit Sponsorship (like those for Art courses or membership fees) - these are the responsibility of the student/family to pay.
