English Learners Program
Summit’s EL (English Learners) Program is designed to support students whose first language is not English and their families. Summit offers the following opportunities and supports for EL students and their families.

Opportunities & Services

ELD classes are offered LIVE online and are developed to support a student’s acquisition of academic English to help students thrive in their mainstream academic content courses. Current programs in use include: ELD Classes, National Geographic 6-12, and Vista Learning K-5.

Summit offers the opportunity for students proficient in more than one language to completing Language Testing to earn high school credit and potentially the Oregon State Biliteracy Seal! For more information and to schedule testing, visit our Language Testing page.

In order to make sure all communications with the school are comprehensible and meaningful, Summit provides interpretation and translation services to EL students and their families.

Summit holds family community meetings twice a year in languages other than English for families who do not speak English. Meetings are conducted in the family’s native language. Meetings are opportunities for families to share ideas and input with Summit and for Summit staff to share updates, information, and community resources with families

Somali speaking students can take a Somali test prep class with a Somali language teacher. The class helps prepare students for the state’s Somali language proficiency test.

One on one online tutoring support available for Secondary students in the EL program.
