Personalized Learning Requirement

Oregon’s Personalized Learning Requirements include the Education Plan and Profile (EPP), Career Related Learning Experiences (CRLE), and the Extended Application (EXAP).  At Summit, students complete elements throughout their high school experience, working with their Advisor and other support staff to meet the requirements.  For more information about Oregon Department of Education’s Personalized Learning Requirement, visit ODE Personalized Learning.

  • The Education Plan and Profile (EPP) documents an individual learner’s academic and career goals, planning, achievements and related experiences based upon a comprehensive series of career awareness and exploration activities. It serves as a road map to guide student learning throughout their middle and high school education and into their lives after high school. It is a dynamic and ever-changing collection of a student's interests, aptitudes, course-taking, work samples, certifications, awards and personal reflections.

    At Summit, students work on their EPP with their Advisor during Term Advising Sessions and meetings with Supporting Staff. 

    Process

    Through adult-guided conversations and activities, students explore their interests, talents, and plans for the future. This process is ongoing; as students revisit and revise their thinking over time.

    Product

    A collection of documents updated at least once a year, That includes:

    • Participation in Career-Related Learning Experiences
    • Interests, courses they plan to take, and career aspirations
    • A portfolio of work and achievements, including progress towards any larger goals (badges, CTE concentrations, etc.)

  • The Career-Related Learning Experiences are structured experiences that connect learning to the world beyond the classroom.  More information about connecting with these experiences as well as required documentation coming soon!

    Process

    • Students participate in structured activities in the community, workplace, or school that connect to both academic content and careers. Examples include: Job shadows, Workplace and Business/Industry field trips, Career-centered guest speakers, Workplace mentoring, Workplace simulations, work experiences, Cooperative work and study programs, On-the-job training, Service learning, Internships, Pre-apprenticeship & Apprenticeship programs

    Product

    • A record of the student’s participation in career-related activities
    • Progress towards any larger goals (badges, CTE concentrations, etc.)

    Students must complete two CRLE’s to graduate!

  • The Extended Application experience is a non-credit graduation requirement that is designed to be a bridge between a student’s high school learning experience and their personal interests, goals, and future career plans.  

    Process

    Students apply and extend their knowledge and skills in a new and complex situation related to the student’s personal career interests and post-high school goals.

    Product

    Documentation of the student’s Extended Application project is included in the Education Plan and Profile. Ideally, this achievement is shared and celebrated with students, families, and the larger community.
